It’s a dream of many (this writer included): the ability explore the Enterprise NCC-1701-D in full virtual reality on the Oculus Rift.

Soon you’ll be able to do just this, thanks to the Enterprise 3D Project, a brand new one-man project that aims to re-create the NCC-1701-D deck-by-deck using the Unreal Engine, then let you explore it at will. That’s not all, because the developer behind the project is also planning to let players fly around the ship using a shuttlecraft, activate and use the holodeck, and potentially even interact with other crew members.

We use the word potentially because at this point in time the NCC-1701-D recreation is more of a museum piece, rather than a full-blown experience with a working crew. That’s understandable, but it means exploring the decks of the ship might be a rather lonely experience.

Nevertheless, it’s an incredibly ambitious and exciting project, and we can’t wait to try it out for ourselves. In the meantime a lengthy video and set of screenshots have been released which you’ll find on this page:
