The visually amazing Back to Dinosaur Island tech demo has been released for the Oculus Rift DK2.

After teasing Rift gamers for months with its visually stunning CRYENGINE VR demo, Crytek has finally released its Back to Dinosaur Island demo, with hefty system requirements to boot.

The demo (seen in our gameplay video above) lets the player experience a long-lost tropical world of dinosaurs, giant bugs and (of course), a T-Rex. It’s an atmospheric demo, with some nice stereoscopic effects, and graphically it blows every other Rift game out of the water, but you’ll need an NVIDIA GTX 980 or AMD Radeon R9 290 card to run the game at 90 frames-per-second. Here are the full requirements:

  • OS: Windows 7, 8 or 10 (64bit)
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-2600K CPU 3.40GHz
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 980 or AMD Radeon R9 290
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Hard Drive: 2 GB available space
  • Additional Notes: Oculus Rift DK2 required, SDK Version 0.6

The high system requirements automatically rule out the vast majority of Rift gamers, but it’s worth noting that the demo still runs on slower GPUs, albeit with a slightly juddery framerate (those with an NVIDIA GTX 970 might just get away with it). To download Back to Dinosaur Island, head over to this URL or load up Steam and search for the game in the Store section of the app.
